A full programme of Career Guidance begins in Transition Year when pupils also begin Work Experience and Career Research and this continues throughout the Leaving Certificate Programme.
Guidance Newsletter
Our Newsletter is updated and issued to pupils/parents on a regular basis and includes detailed information on the Central Applications Office process, commonly known as the C.A.O., which co-ordinates the applications to undergraduate courses in most Third Level Institutions in Ireland & U.C.A.S. which co-ordinates the process for application to Universities in Northern Ireland and Britain.Guidance and Counselling in our School provides for the personal, social and education and vocational development of students.
This Newsletter is a valuable and information link between the parent/pupil and School. It contains key information on relevant aspects of making an application & important points to consider. It also contains valuable links to websites which will be usefull to both parent and students alike.
The Newsletter complements our ‘Visiting Speakers’ - lecturers are invited from various Third Level Colleges from near and far to inform pupils as to what is on offer.

Guidance and Counselling in our School provides for the personal, social and education and vocational development of students.
We aim to provide a wide range of professional expertise, the Guidance Counsellor who is a specialist in this area, endeavours to give sensitive care and support to students learning to cope with many aspects of their personal development.

Monaghan student wins Tyrone farming society’s bursary at Greenmount
Andrew Clarke, from Monaghan, recently received a £1,000 bursary from the Tyrone Farming Society at Greenmount Campus, College of Agriculture, Food and Rural Enterprise (CAFRE).
Andrew, a former pupil of Monaghan Collegiate School, is a first year student on the Higher National Diploma in Agriculture.
At the presentation ceremony, Bertie Pollock, Chairman of the Tyrone Farming Society, congratulated Andrew on his thought provoking report and said: “By supporting a student at Greenmount, our Society is making a small but important contribution to ensuring the continued supply of professional managers to the industry. Young people will play a key role in the future of the industry and we are delighted to be able to help them.”

Monaghan Collegiate Students experience the DREAM Electronics course in DkIT
On a visit to DkIT in 2009, sixth year students sat in with first year DREAM students in a skill session giving them a 'hands on' experience of electronics in action

Harper Adams University Award
Mr. Basil Bayne, Harper Adams University presents Mr. Michael Hall, Principal with a beautiful piece of crystal in recognition of Past Pupil James McElnea’s high performance in the Leaving Certificate. James is studying Agricultural Engineering at Harper Adams. Also pictured is Mrs. Aline Gilmore, Career Guidance Counsellor.
A full programme of talks and career visits are arranged for the senior school. Some of the universities and colleges are as follows:-Queens University, National College of Ireland, Greenmount, Sligo IT,Harper Adams, Glamorgan University,Dundalk IT, Letterkenny IT, Art and Design Colleges, Church of Ireland College of Further Education,Dublin City University, etc.
Other seminars and visits arranged in:- Careers in Agriculture, Reserve Defence Forces, Enginering seminars, DKIT Open day, Higher Options, Student Enrichment Seminar,DBS Mock interviews, Going to College seminar etc.
