Curriculum

Our Commitment to Excellence

We are proud of the excellent success of our Leaving Certificate students.  In  excess of 85% of our pupils transfer to Third Level Education: students this year have obtained highly sought after places in Medicine, Science, Nursing, Health & Nutrition, Social Work, Teaching, Engineering, Agricultural Science to name but a few.

Some pupils have taken up positions in the world of work.

The care of the individual and the importance of each person’s potential remains central to our ethos and helps us to successfully cater for the different traditions attending Monaghan Collegiate School from the four corners of County Monaghan and beyond.  From this in turn comes much of what we value at Monaghan Collegiate School: the expectation of excellence in all areas, tolerance of others and a desire to help fellow human beings.

Monaghan Collegiate School has changed strikingly since it was established in 1570 and the first headmaster and pupils would not recognise the school, that stands now at Corlatt; yet the original ethos remains within the Monaghan Collegiate’s vibrant community.  The school is located just outside Monaghan town on the Dublin Road, a few hundred yards from the Town By-pass making our school easily accessible. Our present extensive building programme has equipped us with modern facilities to meet the requirements of the 21st Century: this building programme includes a Lecture Room, I.C.T. Room, First Aid Room, Music Centre, Administration Offices and Learning Support Room, along with an impressive Architectural Technology & Engineering Block.  All of these enhance significantly our fully equipped suite of core subject classrooms, Science Laboratory, Home Economics Room, Art Department, Careers and Language Rooms. Sports changing rooms, tennis courts & multi purpose pitch have also come on stream complementing our Sports facilities. Due to the demand and growth of our school a further 5 classrooms were officially opened by Very Rt Rev Michael Jackson, Archbishop of Dublin in September 2011.  The building named the Jackson Building after the Archbishop in appreciation for his commitment to the School as Chairperson of the Board of Governors, encompasses a Language suite for Irish, French & English and 2 maths classrooms bringing the total number of well-equipped classrooms to 22 along with a mini-gym facility.  We have also upgraded our technology facilities in each classroom along with recently refurbishing the toilet & shower facilities and improving the heating & lighting facilities in the Sports Hall.

By looking around the school you will find out more about our range of opportunities on offer, our ethos, values and expectations that characterise the school.  Our School Snack bar, with fully equipped Industrial Cooking facilities is open daily providing a choice of healthy hot or cold lunches.  Our pupils come from near & far stretching from all corners of County Monaghan & Armagh, Tyrone and Fermanagh.  Some overseas students join our popular Transition Year and many stay to complete Leaving Certificate Examinations.

The choice of school for your child is one of the most important and influential decisions a parent has to make.  The education of the individual child will shape his or her life.  It will influence academic success, social relationships and moral well being.  All children deserve the best educational opportunities.  Our excellent educational facilities also include a Sports Hall Sports Pitches, with recently installed Rugby posts, Tennis Courts, Table Tennis room and multi-purpose all weather facilities.  This is reflected in the School Mission Statement

‘Working together so that we may flourish as individuals’.
