Ethos and History

Monaghan Collegiate School was established in 1570.

The school is one of the 28 Post Primary Schools, under Protestant Management within the Republic of Ireland.

Pupils from all faiths are accepted to the school.

The care of the individual and the importance of each person’s potential remains central to our ethos and helps us to successfully cater for the different traditions attending Monaghan Collegiate School.

Our new building programme (opened October 2007) includes:
A new Lecture Room, I.C.T. Room, First Aid Room, Music Centre, Administration Offices and Learning Support Room, along with an Architectural Technology & Engineering Block.

All of these significantly enhance our existing fully equipped suite of core subject classrooms, Science Laboratory, Home Economics Room, Art Department, Career and Language Rooms. New Sports changing rooms have also come on stream complementing our Sports facilities.

A new block of 5 classrooms is presently being built, these classrooms will further enhance our exisitng school buildings. It is hoped that they will be open to the students after the Hallowene school break.

The school is located just outside Monaghan town on the Dublin Road, a few hundred yards from the Town By-Pass, making our school easily accessible.

By looking around the school you will find out more about our range of opportunities on offer, our ethos, values and expectations that characterise the school.

Our School Snack bar, with fully equipped Industrial Cooking facilities is open daily providing a choice of hot or cold light lunches.
