Letter from Rt. Rev. John McDowell,
Bishop of Clogher & Chairperson of the Board of Governors.

Dear Friends,

The very first thing I want to do is to welcome you to our School Website.  I came to Co. Monaghan and the Collegiate School as a complete newcomer in 2011 and I have found nothing but warmth and helpfulness on every occasion I have visited.

It was wonderful (for me at least) to be invited to School events and especially School Prize Day, and I was deeply impressed by the achievements of those who received prizes, but even more impressed by the community atmosphere.

Schools are holy places, and not just in the sense that is obvious in singing hymns at Assembly or learning about religion in the R.E. class.  They are places set apart by God for the nurture and development of the young.  The family is the first place where we learn to put others needs before our own; school is the first place we learn that there is a wider family where we have to play our part and take our place.

In that sense Schools are also unique places, where we begin to explore what vocation God has for us in life, and learn also how to pursue it. I know that Mr Reid and all of the Staff are very conscientious about helping you to bring the best out in yourselves, even first thing on a Monday morning.

As Patron of the School I am very conscious of a position of great privilege and trust.
Many of you are facing very difficult financial challenges, in which circumstances it is even more important that we look out for one another.  Pupils, teachers, parents and Governors form a community with one objective – that our young people should flourish and the School is always ready to provide help and support where there is a need and where we can.

On behalf of the Board I assure you of our best attention to nurture your child both academically and spiritually as he/she embarks on their studies at Monaghan Collegiate School.  I would remind you of our School Motto; ‘Working together so that we may flourish as individuals’
