Mr Johnston Reid, the new Principal of Monaghan Collegiate School.
Mr Reid is a native of Pomeroy in County Tyrone, he was educated at the Royal School Dungannon and later at Queen’s University Belfast, where he obtained a B.Sc. degree in Industrial Chemistry, his P.G.C.E and an M.Ed. in Educational Management. A member of the Royal Society of Chemistry, he also holds a Professional Qualification in Headship and a Certificate in Counselling. Mr Reid started teaching in 1982 and has taught in Dunmurry High School, Laurelhill High School, Belfast Royal Academy, and for the past thirteen years in the Royal School Armagh.
Mr Reid is married to Lyn and they have two grown up children, Sarah & Andrew. He is heavily involved in his local community and is an elder and a youth leader in Druminnis Presbyterian Church. He is also a keen rugby fan being a member of the Ulster Rugby Supporters club and a season ticket holder at Ravenhill.
Mr. Reid is delighted with his appointment and the welcome that he has received from the Board of Governors and school community. He has already been involved with the new building programme over the summer. This development is a new block of five classrooms to accommodate the recent increase in pupil numbers and provides a flourishing start to the new academic year.
The new Principal also wanted to place on record his appreciation and gratitude to his predecessor Mr Michael Hall, for his personal courtesy and professional assistance during the last few weeks, and especially for the leadership and vision that he has given to the School during his time as Principal.
Mr Reid wishes to congratulate this year’s Sixth Form and Third Form on their excellent Leaving Certificate and Junior Certificate results and is delighted that high standards have again been achieved. He commented that these most gratifying results were a testament to the students’ dedication and hard work. He also expressed his gratitude to all the staff for their commitment to the young people.
Mr. Reid commented that this is an exciting time to take over the leadership of Monaghan Collegiate School and that he is looking forward to the challenge.
