LEAVING CERTIFICATE PROGRAMME
A Commitment to Excellence at Monaghan Collegiate School –
90% of Studetns in 2009 transferred to Third Level Education
96% of Students in 2008 transferred to Third Level Education
(89% transferred to Third Level Education in 2007)
(81% transferred to Third Level Education in 2006)
Up to 17 Leaving Certificate subjects are offered to Higher Level. Class sizes are small offering increased opportunity for personal assistance.
Timetable arrangements allow pupils to follow academic subjects, a technical/practical bias of subjects or a mixture of both.
All pupils complete 7 Leaving Certificate subjects from the compulsory and choice options.

Compulsory Subjects:
Irish, English & Mathematics.
Optional Subjects:
Agriculture Science, Art, Business Studies, Biology, Chemistry, Construction Studies, French, Geography, History, Home Economics – Social & Scientific, Music, Physics and Technical Drawing. Design & Communication Graphics subject, (known as DCG), was introduced in September 2007.

LEAVING CERTIFICATE VOCATIONAL PROGRAMME
This is a compulsory element of our Leaving Certificate Programme for all pupils whose subject choice at Leaving Certificate meets the criteria for selection.
Link Modules (LCVP) is composed of two parts:
Portfolio of Coursework- 60%
Terminal Exam-40%
Grades are awarded as follows:
Distinction 80-100% 70 points
Merit 65-79% 50 points
Pass 50-64% 30 points
The Link Modules are recognised in points terms by Institutes of Technology and by Universities.
