A ceremony of remembrance was held in Monaghan Collegiate School on Friday 9th November 2018 to remember those from County Monaghan who gave their lives in World War 1, many of whom would have been of similar ages to the senior students present. The event was also attended by Mr. Raymond McHugh Principal and Senior Prefects from St. Macrtan’s College. Both schools had participated in the past in a Peace 111 project to visit Belgium and research the lives of some of the local soldiers. The banners listing the names of those who died were displayed for the event. Mr. Johnston Reid Principal of Monaghan Collegiate School and Mr. Raymond McHugh Principal of St Macartan’s along with Senior prefects from both schools led reflections on the events and sacrifices of those involved in World War 1. Mrs. Sloan, History teacher who was involved in the project between the two schools in 2009/2010 also spoke and led a prayer. Mr. Reid concluded the ceremony by inviting all present to view the names.
