World War 1 Exhibition
Transition Year students visited a World War I display in the Johnston and Madden Hall, North Road, Monaghan on Wednesday 3rd October. This exhibition was open to the public and was organised to commemorate the end of the First World War (Nov. 1918)
Our students really enjoyed the experience. On the ground floor we saw reconstructed trenches and a field hospital. Many of them particularly enjoyed the exhibits upstairs where we saw weapons, medals, uniforms and many artefacts from the time. The students were really impressed that they got to handle exhibits as they had never got the opportunity to do this in museums or displays before. Others enjoyed the interaction of trying on uniforms and helmets. We were impressed with the volume of items on display and also received a booklet on Monaghan in World War One. All in all it was an enjoyable trip. Thanks to all those who organised it.
