Monaghan Collegiate School History Department is delighted to have been awarded the Cathaoirleach Shield for the second year running in recognition of the exceptional quality of the entries received from our pupils in the Monaghan County Council History Essay Writing Competition 2025.
Congratulations to Jack Mackarel (Form 5) who came first in the Senior Cycle competition for his essay on ‘Stonebridge’ and Toms Milhailovs (Form 1) who came third in the Junior Cycle competition for his essay on ‘Monaghan Courthouse’. We are very proud of these achievements. Well done!

The Board of Management are delighted to announce that Mrs Tara Cowan has been appointed as their new principal, succeeding Mr Johnston Reid.
Mrs Cowan has spent most of her career in the Royal and Prior Comprehensive School Raphoe, Co Donegal. She has been Deputy Principal of the Royal and Prior for the past five years. Mrs Cowan said that she was delighted to have been appointed Principal of Monaghan Collegiate and was looking forward to meeting the students, staff, parents and members of the wider school community over the coming weeks.
Chancellor Berry, speaking on behalf of the Board of Management, wished Mrs Cowan every blessing and success in her new role.
